SAT I & TJ Entrance Exam Coaching At the Durga Temple, Fairfax Station, VA Classes start July 8, 2006 Introduction: There is a growing need for quality coaching for SAT I Test and Thomas Jefferson (TJ) High School for Science and Technology Entrance Exam. Instructors for SAT I in some of the brand name coaching centers are not experienced enough or not qualified to teach. At this time there aren’t many avenues open for TJ entrance exam coaching. TJ HS for Science & Tech.: Recommended age group for coaching is rising 6th graders and up. Knowledge acquired in coaching classes helps students in doing well in regular school work too. Grades are one of the key components used in the TJ selection process. The students seeking TJ admission are advised to attend Johns Hopkins University - Center for Talented Youth (JHU-CTY) summer program in their 7th grade summer, before taking TJ entrance exam in their 8th grade. To be eligible for the JHU-CTY program, students need to demonstrate their competency by scoring well in SAT I. Hence, early coaching is greatly beneficial and highly desired. A major part of TJ coaching will involve SAT I material. SAT I: Recommended age group for SAT I preparation is rising 10th graders and up. High school students take PSAT test in October of their junior (11th grade) year. Doing well in PSAT boosts their confidence and also gives them time to prepare for SAT IIs. It is very difficult to prepare for SAT I and SAT IIs entirely in the junior year, because often many students take 2-4 AP courses in the junior year. Hence, early SAT I preparation is advised for high school students. Instructors: All of the instructors have several years of college and high-school teaching experience. They have coached their own children and helped other children for a number of years. Two different instructors will teach Mathematics and English sections of the lessons. The instructors are dedicated to serve the community and they are donating their time and efforts entirely. Fees and Schedule: $22/hour ($21 goes to non-profit organizations: Ekal Vidyalaya and Durga Temple, leaving $1 for administrative expenses). Checks will be written directly to the non-profits and $1 will be in cash contribution. The sessions will consist of EIGHT classes. However, one can join at anytime - beginning or during the session. What will be covered: Coaching will be provided in both Mathematics and English. Time & place: Saturdays, 10:00am – noon, starting from July 8, 2006 at the Durga Temple, Fairfax Station, VA.
