A hard to classify but easily the most popular current Bengali band from urban Bengal - the heart of the big city Kolkata. If anyone has to be credited with bringing folk back into fashion and Baul back with a bang, its Bhoomi. With a name which means earth - their earthly and simple folk tunes with a mix of more urban consciousness in their lyrics as well as instrumentations has resurrected Folk music in Bengal like never before. Some of their Baul renditions of classic baul songs are equally as good and brings a new whiff of modernity to this old art. Bhoomi's songs have overcome the generation barrier, as is evident from the cross-section of audience that is present during their concerts.
